I managed to work out how to copy XBMC's configuration data from my PC to openelecs version of XBMC. Its actually quite easy! And hopefully fully explained in the video! I am using windows PC and some software called cyberduck!! Yes thats cyberduck!! They have a version for the Mac too so that should help some people out! basically its a GUI SSH terminal quite usefull for us who are not that used to linux! ;)
WOWsers! After many months using Android sticks as an XBMC media centre, and shunning the Raspberry Pi due to its single core 700Mhz CPU! I was in for quite a shock! This is Bluray quality! Out of all my android devices none play HD content as good as the Pi! 1080p with NO dropped frames! In fact I made a statement on twitter that if you are using an android stick your probably missing half of the frames!! The actual menus and workings of XBMC feel quite slow! But hey, your not using XBMC to navigate menu's you want to watch content in the best quality possible! And for that reason, I strongly recommend you get yourself a Raspberry Pi Model B 512Mb!! After a bit of help from a fellow Pi user I have managed to work out that you need a FAST SD card (basically that's your hard drive) So Class 10 in the post as I type! Also overclocking even marginally will help! I am just in the process of creating an openelec version of my ever popular XBMC aidymp style zip for the Pi. Hopefully this will be ready to try over the weekend! I will be selling the zip as well as a physical SD card for this version and hopefully a ready made media centre!! Stay tuned! don't forget to add me on twitter for all the latest updates!! In the mean time get ordering your Raspberry Pi!
So my first Raspberry Pi arrived today - and 10 minutes in I decided its broken! Or Is it? 1st off the keyboard & mouse wouldn't work! My first thoughts where the PSU, but I have several good quality 2amp 5volt PSU's and non worked! then I remembered from my Android sticks that not all Micro USB leads are created equal!! I changed the lead to a good quality Micro USB lead and hey! now the keyboard and mouse work! :) So now I can try and install an OS! I was using the NOOBs install as that has a choice of operating systems and is quite easy to download and get onto an SD card! I tried openelec first but after the install that wouldn't boot! so I tried RaspBMC and that woudn't boot either! So I tried all the others! And non of those would boot!! - So know i'm thinking this Pi is broken again! :( I decided to try a different SD card even though the card I was using was brand new! This time all the operating systems installed and worked first time!! :) I have since checked the original card, and it checks out fine! Maybe it wasn't formatted correctly? But it did boot! And install the OS's! - So off to experiment with all these loverly Operating systems! ;)
